Specifically, voters of Can Tho City continue to recommend the Ministry of Transport to soon implement the second phase of the channel project for large ships entering the Hau River to facilitate the development of transport, import and export activities. the Mekong Delta region.
Answering voters, the Ministry of Transport said that the investment project to build a channel for large ships entering the Hau River is a national key project. Phase 1 of the project has been completed, exploited from April 2017 until now, has brought into full play its effectiveness, contributing positively to socio-economic development in the region.
However, because phase 2 has not been implemented, a number of key positions on both sides of Quan Chanh Bo canal have not been protected by embankments, leading to landslides and sedimentation, affecting the continuous exploitation of the channel. . Solving this problem will attract ships with a tonnage of up to 20,000 tons to reduce their regular traffic on the channel, accelerating the annual growth of cargo throughput.
“Currently, the Ministry of Transport has approved the adjustment of the project, according to which, the implementation period of the second phase is from 2021-2023 and an arrangement of 937 billion VND in 2022 for implementation. The ministry is also focusing on directing the Maritime Project Management Board to expeditiously complete the entire technical design of phase 2 for approval,” said a written response to voters of the Ministry of Transport.
Regarding the dredging and maintenance of the channel, the Ministry of Transport said that in 2020-2021, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has arranged more than 590 billion VND to dredge dry areas due to sedimentation and bank erosion and completed this month.
